We’d like to introduce you to our recent starter: Russ

Russell has recently joined us as our Senior Designer / Developer. We wanted to find out a little more about him, so we decided to sit him down for a round of quick-fire questions.

Tell us about your career to date… how did you end up here at WCD?

I started my full-time career in IT working in Ford Motor Company on behalf of Anglia Ruskin University after leaving college. Although I enjoyed the job I wanted to do something more creative and working in the media industry. I decided to go to university and gain a degree in media production which gave me experience in video production, photography and digital design. One of the modules I enjoyed the most was multimedia which was my first introduction to design for the web.

After leaving university I worked as a junior web designer creating email designs for the AA and Admiral insurance. Since then I have worked for various digital agencies around the Essex area creating designs for small to international companies which include: Greene King, Holiday Inn, Accor Hotel Group, Starbucks, NHS to name a few. I have recently joined WCD to help with their design output and to gain more experience in backend development.

What website would be on your bucket list to create at some point?

I have had a passion for using my skills to create an app which will help people in some way. I feel that technology can play an important role in bringing people together. I like the idea of creating a site similar to GoFundMe or Kickstarter which can help people with projects they need to get off the ground.

Mac or PC?

I think both have a place in the world and haven’t had a strong preference for either platform so far. For a long time during my working career, I spent most of my time working on a PC. I was very reluctant to move over to a Mac initially but I wouldn’t go back to a PC for design as I enjoy the Mac experience too much! I do have a passion for gaming and will always use a PC for this over a Mac.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I spend most of my time outside work either reading or gaming. I am very interested in retro games as I find most modern games take up to much of my time! As well as this I love to cook and take care of my two cats

Favourite sports team/film/band?

I don’t follow much in the way of sports but will often watch major sports events such as Wimbledon and the Olympics. I also like Formula 1 but haven’t had time to keep up with the most recent season. I love films and have too many favourites to name but I really enjoy the science-fiction genre and am a huge fan of Star Wars and most of the 80’s classics like Robocop and Terminator. My music taste varies greatly and will either be jamming along to some Metal or if I am in the mood will stick on a bit of ABBA!
